Goals
I believe strongly in the ability of people, no matter their background or circumstances, to fulfill their potential. My career has focused on K-12 education, particularly making education systems accessible and relevant for communities who have historically been marginalized or dis-empowered. At my core, I believe that education is the strongest tool to work toward social justice and equity.
Career Goals:
In the short-term, I would like to gain more experience teaching either in a professional or K-12 setting, particularly with the use of emerging learning technologies. I believe this will set me up for long-term career in supporting and developing trainers or teachers. Teaching and developing people is one of the most challenging professions. From content-knowledge and lesson-planning, to the emotional work of building relationships with students and communities, to organizational skills, teaching requires an unfathomable amount of energy, stamina, skill, and creativity. Although I have 2 years of teaching and 2 years of coaching experiences, I hope to continue to put these skills into practice in the next 3-5 years in a classroom setting. I am currently licensed secondary science educator in Maryland and I'm working toward licensure in Virginia.
Professional Development and Growth Goals:
The skills I would like to focus on developing and designing effective virtual learning environments using various software (Captivate, Articulate, etc.), creating and managing LMSs, project management, and the basics of scripting. I would also like to grow in my curriculum design and implementation skills in a K-12 setting.
